Dear Parents/Guardians:
Classes will resume at their regular scheduled times tomorrow, Wednesday, November 9th. We are asking for your help in the following areas:

BUS RIDERS:  While a school bus can access the vast majority of our streets, there are still some that we cannot enter or navigate.  If you live on such a street, please either walk your child out for pick up or drive him/her to school.  Car pooling is recommended if possible.  The bus drivers will do their best to accommodate you.  We are sure that bus times will be impacted by the detours.  A listing of known inaccessible streets for buses as of 9:00 AM Tuesday, November 8th is in the footnote.  We also included a listing of streets with no power as reported through 9:00 AM, November 8th.

WALKERSWe realize that many sidewalks are covered with debris. Unfortunately, our fleet is not large enough to provide temporary bus service to students designated as walkers. Again, we ask parents to either walk or drive their child to school or make arrangements with another adult to do so.

PARENTAL DISCRETION:  As always, we remind parents to exercise their discretion on safety issues. If you feel that it is unsafe to send your child to school keep him/her home. Simply call the school office to report your decision. The day(s) missed will be treated as an excused absence.  Your child’s safety is very important. As the parent, we look to you to keep your child home if you feel it is unsafe to walk to school or ride the bus to school.

Likewise, the principals have been instructed to be very lenient with tardy students.  Children arriving late due to road or street conditions will not be counted tardy.

Hopefully in a few more days, all of our roads will be fully accessible and sidewalks will be cleared. Thank you for your understanding and patience.  Like you, we look forward to getting back into the routine of school.

Finally, a rumor has been circulating that classes will be held on Veterans’ Day. As of this writing, we are NOT holding classes on Veterans’ Day, Friday, November 11th.

Sincerely,

John Gallacher, Superintendent
